Our Incredible Halloween

We hope everyone had an incredible Halloween this year.  We had a blast preparing for and celebrating Halloween.  We especially loved making and wearing our costumes:
We were The Incredible's!  This is Colby's new favorite movie and always asks to watch his "Superhero" movie.  We have the perfect family size to be The Incredible's too.  Russell was Mr.. Incredible, I was ElastiGirl, Emily was Violet, Colby was Dash, and Logan was Baby Jack-Jack.  I had fun making the costumes and the nice thing about it was they were quite simple and the clothing is something we can wear sometime other than Halloween.  Don't we look "Incredible"!!!!

Other than our awesome costumes, we did a lot of fun Halloween activities this year.  First, we had our Joy School Halloween party at our house this year:

At the party we had a Minion (Eric White), two Rapunzel's (Eva Joseph and Rylie Stanley), and two Incredible's.  After taking pictures of the kids, we learned about the letter "H" for Halloween and Haunted Houses!  Then we made Haunted Houses!  Each of the kids got to decorated their House with ghosts, witches and any other spooky thing they wanted.  We also made ghosts suckers and had treats.  I made pumpkin shaped rice crispies, and banana ghosts.  I had also planned to play Halloween BINGO, but the kids had too much fun decorating their houses and eating their treats.  It was a fun party.

Another fun tradition is carving our pumpkin of course!

All three of these kids had a blast carving the pumpkin.  They loved digging in all of the pumpkin goo and pulling it out with their spoons.  One funny thing about our pumpkin was that it had a pumpkin growing inside of it!  One of it's seeds had sprouted and was growing a green leaf.  We decided our pumpkin was a girl and she was pregnant!  (*Yes, I just realized I spelled pregnant wrong on the picture.  I can't fix it without recreating the whole collage and don't really want to do that.  Just know I really do know how to spell.   Sorry...)
This last week was also the Dixie College homecoming week.  At the parade, the kids got soooo much candy that I was able to fill our Halloween bag with free parade candy!  Too bad I had already bought candy for the trick-or-treaters.  Well instead of throwing out candy at the parade, one of the dentists in town handed out spooky vampire teeth!  Here are Emily and Colby showing off their spooky teeth.  When we turned out the lights, we realized that the teeth glowed in the dark so we took a spooky picture of that too.

October 30 was our ward's Trunk or Treat.  The Primary is in charge of this ward party which means I was in charge of it!   Last year we did the Trunk or Treat on Halloween and it stunk for us because we couldn't do anything else besides the Trunk or Treat.  Learning from last year, I decided to do the Trunk or Treat the day before Halloween instead.  This worked out so much better I thought.  I even think we had a better turnout this year than last.

Here is our Incredible family by our trunk.  This year we had a trunk contest and gave out prizes for the best decorated trunks.  Russell made a little yarn spider web in the back of our van.  I thought it was pretty cool but it was nothing compared to some of the awesome trunks our ward members did.  I should have taken pictures of the winners.  We also did soup and bread bowls this year and let me tell you we had so many great soups.  I feel like the Trunk or Treat was a definite success.  We even had a lot of non-members or less active families come out which is always great.

As you can tell, we had a blast at the Trunk or Treat.

The next day was Halloween.  Emily had a Halloween party and parade at her preschool so she got back into her Violet costume.  Colby didn't want to be left out and insisted that he wear his Dash costume too.  Well I decided why not wear our costumes all day long.  That is just what we did.  Even I wore my Incredible shirt.
While we were waiting for the parade to start, Colby was acting just like Dash on the movie.  He was running so fast and fighting other superheros and villains.  Finally the preschool came parading out:

Ms. Mitchell looked awesome in her banana costume and all of the kids looked awesome in their costumes as well.  Colby, Logan and I watched them parade through the halls of the school getting treats from the principal, librarians and secretaries.  Then we ran outside so see them parade back to their classroom.

Here are all of the cute kids in Emily's class.  There was even another Mr. Incredible in her class!  Her little class is so fun.  I had the opportunity to volunteer in her class on the 30th and it was so much fun.  The kids are really friendly and they love school and they love learning.  It was also nice to meet all of the kids Emily talks about each day.  (Oh yeah remember Trent the boy Emily said she was going to marry?  He is the boy in the zebra costume.)

After school, we headed to the library for another Halloween activity.

I thought it was going to be another parade and party but it just turned out to be a normal story time where all the kids wore their costumes.  That was okay, Emily and Colby still loved it.  They even got to "Trick or Treat" to all of the librarians' desks and get little prizes.

After the library, I took the kids trick-or-treating to Russell's work and my work.  Everyone loved seeing us in our costumes and we loved getting candy!

We finally came home and we all took naps for like three hours!!! That never happens!  Finally at 5 o'clock Colby woke up and we decided to go Trick-Or-Treating.  Since we had already done the Trunk or Treat thing, we just went Trick-or-Treating to family.  We started at Grandma's:

We also went to Grandma and Grandpa Farnsworth's, and the Pryor's before picking up Russell from work.  At Tami's, we saw Jessica and Cole in his way cute puppy costume.  After getting Russell we went to the Bassett's and then up to Grandma and Grandpa Morwood's.  The kids loved getting even more candy!

We had an Incredible and fun Halloween this year.  Happy Halloween from the Incredible Farnsworth Family!!!

A Hunting We Will Go...

October was hunting season for our family.  The first two weekends of the month were the Elk Hunt.  Russell had never been elk hunting before so he purchased a Spike Elk tag this year.  Russell, Clint and my dad headed out opening day to try and get the big one (well the big spike).  I will let Russell tell you that fun story now.  Needless to say it was a deer camp (or elk camp) experience from what I heard. They sounded like a bunch of bickering old women when they came home.  My mom and I were glad we stayed home and watched conference!

My turn for what really happened on our fearless elk hunt. We left town at about 9 pm on Friday night and headed up to Indian Peaks where Clint said the big ones would be. We arrived there about 11 pm. After getting the trailer taken care of, Clint and I went off on a four wheeler ride up the road to see if we could hear the elk. As we pulled up to where Clint saw them when he was up there a week ago, we turned off the four wheelers and listened. The whole hill side was full of elk bugling, we got way excited for the morning hunt. The morning of the hunt, was early and cold. We woke up about 5 am and had pop tarts and water for breakfast, got everything ready to go and headed out about 6 am for a long hike. As soon as the sun was breaking through, the bugling began. We heard them all around us, but we did not physically see one. The closest we came was about fifty yards in front of us, we heard a big bull elk in the trees. There were fresh signs everywhere, but no real elk. We hiked till about 10:30 am and figured we would head back to camp for a bite to eat. Needless to say, every time Clint and I are together, we end up getting lost. We finally found the road and started hiking in what we thought was the right direction back to camp, but instead was the opposite direction. As we were taking our fun little hike on the road, it was just our luck to run into a Ranger from the DNR. Clint had his gun and no license, so the ranger asked for mine and I pulled it out and showed him. He asked for Clint's and Clint told him he was my guide and he was coyote hunting also. The ranger asked Clint what caliber his gun was, Clint answered a 270, and the ranger stated that is a big gun for coyotes. I finally piped in and told the ranger we don't plan on being stupid it is not worth losing everything for poaching. He agreed and that was that. We asked him if he saw a camp from the direction he came, he said no. He said have a fun hunt and off he went. As the dust kicked up around us we said to ourselves thanks for giving us a ride. About 5 minutes later, the ranger came back and said he found our camp about two miles up. Holy cow we thought we missed camp by a long shot, so we jumped in the back of his truck and he took us to camp. The whole trip was fun and relaxing. It was nice to be outside and doing whatever we wanted. After a long needed nap, food and water, we went back out about 3 pm and stayed out till dark with still nothing to be seen. There was a few shots going off around us but no shots coming from us. There were so many four wheeling trails up on that mountain, it was amazing to spend all day taking these trails. That night Clint decided to make a camp fire to cook hot dogs. The part that was funny about the whole trip was as soon as it was pitch dark the elk started to make their music all over the mountain. Clint and I just looked at each other and shook our heads. Sunday was our last effort to get the big one. Needless to say it was a good two hour hike with not a single sign. As my father-in-law says, "A good hunt is a hunt where you come home empty handed, because if you get one then the hard and dirty work begins." I would have loved the hard work and dirty work to say that I got an elk.Oh well it is what it is, we all had a great time.

As a last ditch effort to get an elk, we decided to head out as a family back to Indian Peaks.

Yes there is the fearless hunter (with babe in arms) scoping out the area for any signs of elk.

And here are Emily and Colby collecting sticks to use as swords and being as noisy as possible.  Yeah there was no way we were finding an elk this day.  Oh and to top it off, in the rush to load everything in the truck to make the trip, Russell forgot his rifle.  He remembered when we were an hour from home and there was no turning back.  Russell did have his 9mm so if by some miraculous chance we did see an elk he was going to use that!  About 5 minutes into the "hunt", the kids were being kids and were stepping on every stick and twig and throwing rocks and making noise.  Russell turned to me and said "We're just going for a hike, huh."  I said "Yep" and we kept on walking.
We saw many signs of elk including fresh prints and poop but no elk.  Darn it.  To tell you the truth I was kind of glad because I wouldn't know what to do with an elk if we had shot one with all of the kids.  After our hunt/hike, we headed back to the truck for hot dogs before heading home.  What a fun day.

The next weekend was the opening of the deer hunt.  Unlike two years ago, Russell didn't get a deer on the opening day so we were able to go "hunting" with him during the week.  I didn't take any pictures but the story was pretty similar to the elk hunt.  We went hunting out near the turkey farm road because that was where Clint shot his big buck a couple days before.  It ended up being a fun hike and 4-wheeler ride with the kids again.  Emily and Colby started complaining their feet hurt so we spent about an hour chilling under a tree while Russell hiked around.  Then we happened to meet up with Clint and Trevor and Russell took Emily and Colby on the four-wheeler in search for more deer.  With no luck we headed home at dark.

Russell went out on the final day of the hunt with Clint and my dad and like the fearless hunter he is... brought home the bacon or in this case venison:

The deer hunt was just as fun as the elk hunt. The opening day we went up to Utah hill and hiked and four wheeled all over that mountain looking for the big one.Tyler, Clint, Terry, Braden and I got going about 6:30 am. We went up to an area where we saw a herd of about 20 or so with a few good bucks in the herd. Clint said if we go up a little further and hike up to the next ridge we can get a better view and shot, so that is what we did. As we were hiking, getting tired and thirsty, trying to get up to the top of this hill, here comes Clint on his four wheeler saying, "Anyone want a ride." We glared at him and I thought to myself what was I thinking for walking. As we got to one side of the hill Clint saw to bucks in the trees. I looked at one and it was a big three point, so I took aim and fired. I thought I was right on, but I was off. I loaded again and took aim, now I was getting buck fever. I shot at the dirt in front of him. As I loaded the last bullet, it hit me holy crap I left my bullets at the four wheeler. Clint looked at me and said, "Are you kidding me." So after that little adventure, we hiked onward kicking myself that I forgot my bullets. Thank goodness I had Tyler, he ran back to the four wheeler and got my bullets, what a good brother. As we hiked on we push more deer out of the trees and saw the herd we were watching up on top of the hill. Now it was Clint's turn to take aim and fire. There was another big buck in the herd on top of the hill. He fired and missed too. The sad thing about watching that herd go over the saddle was, as soon as they went over, a few minutes later there was about five shots fired. Clint and I looked at each other and said that was our buck. For our last ditch effort to see if we could get the buck that was still hiding, we went to the top of the saddle. As we rested we watched the doe that went over come running back towards us. Once again the bucks were no where to be seen. The whole day was like this: we hiked and we saw three other good size bucks, but I could not hit a broad side of the barn and missed every single one. Terry told me the reason I was missing was because I never ran over my gun for good luck.We all laughed at his comment, because last time I got a deer I ran over my gun prior to shooting the deer. The rest of the day was fun Clint found a few good spots that he pushed some deer out of the trees. I even got him mad at me for a minute, he told me to look over this area and don't go anywhere as he went to the top of this hill to see if he could see anything. So I started looking and saw nothing, Terry started to go up the road a little, so I figured I could get a better view from the other end. As I was on the other end, I heard Clint on the radio saying "Get over here and why the heck are you over there." So I rushed over there and I saw a bunch of deer coming out of the trees, I am an idiot why did I move. Clint said I could have had a 100 yard shot but instead I was clear over there and because it took so long to get back it turned into a 400 yard shot. Clint looked at me and said "Stay right here by me, do as I do and you will get a deer." I was laughing and smiling when he said this because he was pissed. Oh well. All in all no luck on opening day and the next time I could get out was Friday. As you read from Tiffany's story we went out as a family on Friday and had a great time. Saturday, the day before the last day of the hunt, we went out again to Utah hill. As we got up there and prepared for our first hiking adventure, Terry said to me, "Russell you better run over your gun before we go anywhere." I said "You're right," so I laid my gun behind my four wheeler and threatened to run over it. Now we were ready to shoot the big one. It wasn't long after I christened my gun, Clint saw a buck on the mountain behind us, so we both took off for the four wheelers. We got to the place where he saw it and there it was a pretty good two point about 100 yards out. I took aim missed once, I was not having round two of last Saturday, so I took aim again, fired and it dropped. I was excited. The hike to it was tiring but it was worth it when I saw the deer lying there. There was some humor in this deer as you can see from the picture above. In the binoculars there looked like there were two antlers, but when I got up there and moved the head, one of his antlers were missing from what looked like it was shot off. After gutting it and hanging it in a tree to come back for it later, we went off to get Terry's deer. We did not get it until about 10 minutes before sunset. Terry got a two by three at about 70 yards out. The whole deer hunting season was a success we all got our deer and had fun while doing it.

We spent Sunday after church butchering three deer and wrapping up all the meat.  Now our freezer is full of meat for the winter!  Yeah!

There was one funny story about the deer hunt.  When Russell came home to tell us about his hunting experience, he said he saw a huge buck.  He said they could tell it was a huge buck because they could see its "crown jewels."  Without missing a beat, Emily said "Why was the deer wearing jewels, Dad?  Was it a girl?"  Russell and I could not stop laughing!  How do you explain that one to your 5 year old?

8 Months

Logan is eight months old and quite a handful!  He is a funny little boy.

Logan loves sitting in his highchair because it means he gets a treat!  He loves eating solid foods especially cookies and crackers.  We have also given him pancakes too.  In these pictures, he is eating blue Jello.  He loved it and needless to say, he was a big blue mess afterward.

He is such a cutie!  Logan likes to play Pat-a-Cake.  He is always clapping and then when I say "Toss it!" he raises his arms way up into the air over his head and smiles so big.  He also will roll his arms too during the song. Logan also loves getting his picture taken.  Whenever I bring out the camera, he smiles or laughs so big.  This is so nice when trying to get a good picture.

Logan also likes to play with his brother.  These two boys are early risers.  For some reason, Logan and Colby go to sleep in their own beds but by morning they have both moved into our bed.  So when they wake up in the morning they are laying by each other and they just start playing and talking to each other.  If Logan wakes up first and he sees Colby, he will start squawking and hitting Colby on the belly to try and wake him up.  Then when they are both awake, they laugh and wrestle.  Sometimes Colby is a little to hard at wrestling and I have to pull them apart.  Logan is going to be a pretty tough boy when he gets bigger because he has to deal with Colby all the time.

Logan is starting to scoot around on the ground now.  He still prefers to roll but he is starting to army crawl to get to things too.  For the most part though he still stays put where I set him down which is a really nice thing.  Cole is crawling everywhere so when I watch him, I have to make sure everything is put away or he will get into it.  Cole just reminds me of what I have to look forward to with Logan.  Logan's new favorite game is rolling the ball.  He absolutely loves playing ball.  He gets really excited when he even sees a ball and will army crawl right to it.  Logan is so happy to have someone roll the ball into his lap and then he will grab the ball and throw it back to the other person and squawk until they roll it back to him and then it repeats.  He could play forever.  I think Logan is going to be a basketball player because he can already palm his bouncy balls.

Logan is like Emily was when she was a baby.  Whenever Logan gets excited or sees something he wants, his whole body shakes and his hands and feet go crazy wiggling.  Emily used to do that too.  Logan is also very friendly.  At church he will wave and say "Hi!" to all of the people he sees.  His "hi" is really just the "H" sound but we all know what he means because he is waving too.  When he waves, his chubby little hand opens and closes so fast.  It is so cute to watch.  All of the people setting behind us are too distracted by Logan's cuteness to even pay attention to the talks!

Logan is still a "Mamma's Boy" and still will not sleep through the night without being held but we love him anyway!!
And not to be left out, Colby wanted his picture taken too.  Colby has never been a camera fan.  He usually hides when the camera comes out or refuses to look at me and he absolutely refuses to smile.  Lately, however, he has been asking me to take his picture!  I still have to remind him to smile but he always gives me a cute smile when I do.  What a  silly boy.  Colby can now spell his name and recognize his name when he sees it written.  I have tried to teach him to write his name but he still refuses and tells me he doesn't know how or it is too hard.  Oh well he is only two.
And here is a funny picture of Emily.  She is showing off her bling teeth or her new silver crowns.  Despite how often or well we brush her teeth, Emily has cavities.  Emily's dentist is awesome and very encouraging but I still feel like a terrible parent every time we go to the dentist because she has cavities.  Her dentist just said that some kids have a lot of cavities and some don't.  Well she started getting cavities in her molars and that is when the dentist recommended these silver crowns.  So Emily has two silver crowns on the left side of her mouth and has to go back again and get one more on the right side.  When she was in getting the crowns, we were kind of worried how she would do because she absolutely refused to have the gas mask on.  (I was actually kind of glad she didn't want the gas because I didn't want them to use it on her either.)  So the dentist said "OK lets not use the gas."  He was really awesome with her and made her feel at ease.  He suggested we just treat her like the big girl she is and just numb the area and just act very calm like it is no big deal and then just see how she does.  So that is what we did.  The hygienist turned on Tangled so Emily could watch it while they worked and Emily did great!  The whole process of numbing, drilling, and placing the two crowns took about an hour.  By the end, Emily had started to get restless so the dentist recommended we do the other side on another visit.  The dentist and hygienist were so amazed at how good Emily did for only being 5!  They were also so amazed at how still she held while they were working.  They told me that normally they have to put kids this age under anesthesia to do this work.  I was so glad it went smoothly and that it was a good experience for Emily.  She still says she loves going to the dentist but she likes it when they just clean her teeth better!
