Today was Colby's first day of Preschool! He was so excited to go to school and be as big as Emily. We have him in a group preschool with five other kids. As part of the group, we rotate who teaches the class each week. It is similar to the "Joy School" we did with Emily.
That is why the sign says his teacher is Mom because it is kind of like homeschooling. Colby doesn't care, he just likes the fact that he is going to school and learning and having homework to do! Doesn't he look so grown up! Colby is learning so fast too. This summer he learned to read and is loving reading Dick and Jane books and the Reading for All Learners Program books. They use these books to teach reading in the schools up here and there are also sets to check out from the library. During the summer we worked on reading these books and Colby was able to read and pass off all 26 books in Level 1!
As his reward, we received a certificate of completion from the library as well as his very own copy of Book 27 in the Level 1 series. He was super excited to get his certificate and has read that book over and over since he received it. We are so proud of Colby for working so hard and learning to read. Now we are on to Level 2 the orange books. If he wasn't only 4, I would say he was ready for Kindergarten but I'll keep him home for one more year...
So here is just a random picture...
We have been finding some pretty weird stuff in our window wells lately. First the mice and now this lovely little snake! Russell said it was just a Gopher snake but it sure looked like a baby Rattler to me... We threw it back into the field behind our house and told it to go eat some mice. Yuck! I really hope we don't have any new little pets wanting to share our house in the winter... We just might have to get a cat.
