The first day of school was August 23rd. The summer just flew by and we didn't even get to do any thing fun (stupid cancer!). Okay we did do a few fun things like Hogle Zoo, camping, and playing with Grandma and Grandpa Morwood. Oh and we can't forget the kids rode their bikes non stop and had lemonade stands all the time with their friends. So we did have a pretty good summer. But now it is back to the old grid and back to school!
This year should be really fun. I am excited for the great teachers the kids got and I am happy they have a lot of friends in their classes this year. Look how big they are getting! Stop growing right now!!
This year, Emily is in 3rd grade.
Emily has been looking forward to going back to school ever since it got out for the summer. This girl loves school! Emily was lucky enough to get Mrs. Katie McBride this year for her teacher. She loved Mrs. McBride when she was the school librarian and now is really happy that she gets to be her teacher.
The other thing Emily is super excited about is having her two best friends in her class this year. When we saw Ayzleigh and Jadaci's names on her class list, she was jumping for joy! She was sad they were not in her class last year but is really looking forward to this year now.
Colby is in 1st grade now:
He is all ready to go to school all day long and has his Star Wars lunch box ready for lunch. Colby got kind of mixed around with teachers this year because at the last minute we decided to switch him out of his original class. At first Colby also had Mrs. McBride (Shana). We loved her when Emily had her so we were excited. Then, however, the principal called us and told us that Mrs. McBride would only be teaching part-time and would have another team teacher take the other half. We were still okay with it until we found out who the team teacher was then we kind of lost interest. The other teacher was one that was very strict, and, I feel, too hard on the kids in her class. I had originally requested to not have her as the teacher. Russell and I both felt like this situation would be bad for Colby. We wanted him to continue to like school and didn't feel like this was the best. We decided to switch Colby into Mrs. Smith's class and we are really happy and excited that she is his teacher this year.
Mrs. Smith is very friendly and we have heard great things about her. Colby has loved being in her class so far this year. Also on the plus side, there are so many kids Colby knows in this class. The funny thing is that his whole primary class is in his school class too so they all have a good time. Colby's really good friend, Quinn, is in this class too. They played together all summer. When Colby found out that Quinn was in his class, he told us that he hoped he didn't sit by Quinn in school. Russell and I were both shocked by this comment and asked Colby why he had said this because it wasn't very nice to say about his friend. Colby said that if he sat by his friend, they would talk the whole time and then they would get in trouble or not learn so he didn't think it would be a good idea. We both laughed and said, "You're right." Well he didn't end up sitting by Quinn but he does sit By his other friend, Madi, but he said they don't talk.
Logan started preschool this year:
Logan absolutely loves going to school. He looks forward to it everyday. He goes for about two and a half hours everyday except Friday. He has met a lot of fun new friends and is learning a lot.
His teacher is Miss Maggie and she is super nice. On the first day, we found out that she is friends with Calen and Rochelle so she has a special connection with Logan.
Logan's preschool is held at Mountain Crest High School behind our house. Because he goes to school at the high school, whenever anyone asks what grade he is in, he says he is in high school. He is a funny kid.
In between sick times with chemo, I made Emily and Logan new backpacks for school. Colby's was still in great condition from last year. Emily's backpack was getting too small to carry everything so I made hers bigger. And of course, Logan needed a backpack for preschool. Each of the kids picked out their own fabric and they loved how they turned out. I like how they turned out too!
Before school started, Emily had a losing teeth party. She lost two teeth within a week of each other. She was so brave and pulled her own teeth even! She was too scared to have Russell or me pull them so we told her to pull them herself then and she did! She was pretty excited about that.
So now school is in full swing and we are back to a structured schedule of school and after school activities. In a way I am glad for that but I have really been loving this laid back summer too. Oh well on to the school year.
