As soon as we got home from camping on Cove Mountain, it was time to pack up again and head back on the road. This time though we were heading to Glacier National Forest in Montana. We have been wanting to do this trip for a long time and now we are finally doing it. Here we are off on a great road trip. This trip was a big family trip with my parents, Tami, Clay, and Lacie's families. We left earlier than the rest of the family because we had to be back earlier for work. Grandma and Grandpa came up with us and traveled along with us too.
As you can tell from the pictures we are way excited to be on the road. We had a great time going through each state and catching the signs as we passed them.
Our first stop was at a rest stop somewhere in Idaho to stretch our legs and have lunch.
The scenery during the whole drive was awesome.
There were mountains and forests everywhere and everything was so green! We drove through a tunnel that was made for wildlife to cross. This was funny to see because who would have thought to build a crosswalk for wildlife. I wonder if the animals know it was built for them and actually use it? We all laughed when we saw it.
One of the coolest areas we drove through was Flathead Lake in Montana. This lake was huge and amazing to see. The whole road wrapped around the lake. There were even little islands in the middle of the lake and along the sides with houses on them. A couple crazy facts about Flathead Lake are the water is so clear you can see down almost twenty feet and there are fresh water bull sharks in it some people say. There is even a Flathead Lake monster, some people call "Flessie," according to Native American legends. We didn't get out to find the Monster but we did get out to take a few pictures.
As we kept driving toward Kalispel, Montana, we saw even more beautiful views. There were these awesome yellow fields all over Montana. It was way cool and how bright the fields were.
When we got home, we found out that these are Canola fields. These canola plants are used as rotational crops as a solution to pest problems in Montana's wheat and barley crops. These plants get rid of weeds and bugs that might harm the wheat and barley. I just love how the fields looked in its bright yellow bloom.
When we got on the road, we decided our first destination point would be Kalispel, Montana. It was around 7 pm by the time we got there and the kids were excited to get out and stretch their legs. We planned for our first RV camp destination to be the Walmart parking lot. We found it and as we pulled in we were all laughing. There were trailers and cars camping everywhere in the parking lot. The first side we tried to look for a spot was all ran down and looked sketchy. This was definitely the homeless side of town. So we went to the other side of the parking lot and that looked like a step above. It looked more like the middle class of homelessness. It was much cleaner and less ghetto or drug-dealer-like. We found a spot and finally stretched our legs.
We got dinner made and had a picnic in the trailer. Then we took a stroll through Walmart and found some cool Glacier clothes and souvenirs for all of us at discount prices.
This was a good travelling day and tomorrow we will be in Glacier.
