These last two weeks of school have been nothing but playtime for Emily! They sure have had fun though filled with field trips, class plays, class parties, and Super kids day!
Thier first field trip was a walking field to the Rodeo grounds where they met with the fire department and police officers.
The kids were so excited to hear and see the fire fighters especially when they got to see Mrs. McBride wearing the fire fighter's clothes. Then they all got to try on the fire coat and try to lift the Jaws of Life tool.
After talking to the firefighters, we walked over to Ridley's grocery store for a little scavenger hunt in the store, and then to the Senior Citizen center to play a little pool with the seniors there. The kids loved searching the store and playing pool. Then they came back the the rodeo ground and met with a couple local police officers.
The kids got to ask the police officers any question they wanted. All of the questions seemed to be about thier weapons, guns, arresting bad guys and stuff like that. They also got to sit in the police car!
By then it was time for lunch so we headed to the park to eat our picnic and play on the playground. Colby and Logan were so excited to go on the field trip too. They felt as big as the first graders and had a blast playing with them. After lunch we all headed back to school.
The next week, Emily's class put on a class play for all of the parents. It was called Mother Goose's Character Camp. Each student was a character in a nursey rhyme. Emily got to be Mother Goose!
The play was so cute and the kids did a great job acting and singing. Emily was the best Mother Goose ever! She spoke loudly and with enthusiasm. I was so impressed. Good job Emily!
After the play, we watched a slide show of the kids during the year and Mrs. McBride gave out a few awards to the kids with the highest Reading Counts points. Emily had 425 points the second highest in the class. Tanner ended up beating her with 450. These two have been in competition all year long to see who would get the most points. Sometimes Emily would be ahead but sometimes Tanner would be. It was kind of nice to have some competition to push Emily along.
Here are the three amigos in their costumes. Emily was Mother Goose, Jadaci was Miss Muffitt, and Ayzleigh was the Itsy Bitsy Spider. And of course we had to get a picture of Emily and her awesome teacher Mrs. McBride. We have really loved being in her class this year.
On May 31, the first graders took a long field trip to the Tree House Museum in Ogden. This was such a fun trip. First we stopped at a park to play and eat lunch and then we headed to the Tree House. The Tree House Museum is a big children's museum with so many fun things to do inside. We did a tour so we had a few centers we went to. First was a fun fairy tale story telling. The kids loved hearing all of the fun stories.
Then at the art center, we made magic wands. Each wand was different and each kid got to decide what their magic power would be.
Next we got to act out the story of Snow White on an actual stage! The kid actors were great and everyone enjoyed the show.
Finally we were able to explore the museum for about a half hour and just play. The girls really liked the kitchen area and made me the most delicious pancakes! There were so many fun areas to explore in this museum. We are definitely going to have to come back with the boys and spend the whole day just playing.
The next day (June 1) was Super Kids Day at the school. This is just a day of fun and games for the kids. The first grade started out with their RC Party. This party was for those first graders that had earned at least 100 Reading points. Since Emily earned 425, she got to go. They had a really fun "Drive-In" movie theater and activities. Each kid was able to bring their own decorated cardboard box car to sit in while watching the movie and playing the games. They had a great time.
Even Colby and Logan made their own boxes to set in while we partied. They really think first grade is for them not just Emily.
Then it was time to head outside for the big Super Kids day activities! All activities involved water and all of the kids got soaking wet. Bring on Summer!
I was in charge of the bucket/sponge relay race so those are the only pictures I got. Emily had a blast playing with her class. Colby and Logan loved just wandering around and jumping in the kiddie pools and getting wet. This was such a fun day.
And finally the last day of school was today June 2. We are officially out for the summer and looking forward to many adventures in the upcoming months.
