After leaving the risky truck stop in Green River, we headed south to Moab. By the time we got there, we still had a few hours before we could check into our campsite and drop the trailer. To spend that time, we decided to check out Moab Giants. This was a really exciting detour from our original agenda and I am glad we made the stop.
Moab Giants is a dinosaur park just before you get to Moab. We had a blast checking out the life sized dinosaurs, the fossil museum, and the 3D prehistoric aquarium.
Our first stop was the 3D Prehistoric Aquarium. This was not really an aquarium but multiple video screens showing scenes of what the actual prehistoric sea creatures would have looked like. The cool thing about it though was that when you put on the 3D glasses, the images on the screens looked so real. It was amazing to see ancient sea turtles and sea dinosaurs swimming around in the tanks. The most intense part of the aquarium was the encounter with the Megalodon, the huge ancient shark. The guide warned us that it would be scary but we thought he was just exaggerating. Russell took Charlotte out because she was throwing a fit and wanting to run around so it was just me with the other three. At first it was fine, we were watching the Megalodon swim around in the tank and then, the shark turned and looked at us and swam straight for us. Bam! it swam right into the tank glass causing the whole room to shake even the ground. The kids lost it! They were freaking out, climbing on me, and trying to hide behind my legs. All this time the shark continued to bang against the glass, shaking the room. All the while the announcer over the sound system is saying "Warning! Warning! Get out now!!" All of the kids are screaming. Then, Crash! the Megalodon crashed through the glass and water sprayed in our faces causing the everyone to scream and freak out even more! This whole time I am being mauled over by three kids trying to protect them and tell them it is not real and trying to stay standing as they are clinging to me. Finally it was over. I was laughing and the kids were crying and Russell was outside hearing the screams and wondering what was going on! It was so cool but the kids did not think it was so cool. They ran out of that aquarium faster than anything!
After they were out of the aquarium and had realized that it was just a video and not real, they felt much better. Next we took a walk along the dinosaur trail where we came face to face with life-sized dinosaurs. We even got chased by a T-Rex!
Help!!! Okay not really but it was fun to take some actions shots like we were! As we walked along this half mile trail, we saw over 100 dinosaurs and got to pet most of them. They were so friendly!
That is except for this guy. He tried to eat us!
This Allosaur actually got Russell in his jaws but Logan saved his life. Thanks Logan for saving Dad!! After that scary experience, we continued down the trail as if nothing happened and saw even more friendly dinosaurs:
This little guy was just Charlotte's size. She petted him and loved on him. The best part though was that she got to run around and have fun.
When we got back to the Dino Playground, this little Triceratops was willing to let us ride on his back. He was so nice and the kids loved riding on him for a minute.
Also in the Dino Playground was this T-Rex head. It was so big that all four kids could fit in its mouth. He could probably swallow them in one gulp!
The kids thought the best part of the whole dinosaur experience was digging for fossils at the Dig Sites. At first they were just content with playing in the dirt until Colby hit something hard. He knew he had found a dinosaur skeleton so he was digging with all his might. Then Logan and Emily joined in with brushes and shovels to help him. They did find a big fossilized something in the dirt and they were so proud of themselves. Charlotte also loved playing in the dirt and was so filthy by the time they were done.
Finally, we walked through the Interactive Tracks Museum which was full of dinosaur fossils and tracks and fun games and things we could interact with.
The Moab Giants park was really fun and we had a great time learning all about dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures. Despite being scared to death by the Megalodon, and chased by a T-Rex and Allosaur, we really enjoyed our visit to the dinosaur park.
