Memorial Day weekend was our first official weekend in our new home in Hyrum. Despite the fact that it rained here for about 3 weeks straight, we had a great weekend. We came up here for a week from May 11th through May 16th while Emily was out of school for a few days due to end of year testing. While we were here our new ward members came and moved us in. It was so nice of them to do it on short notice. We were going to have some of the Fire guys come move us in on that Saturday but after looking at the weather forecast, which said rain, rain and more rain, we decided to move in on Wednesday instead, before the storm hit. We talked to our neighbors, the Jones', and they said they would put the word out through the Elders Quorum and get us some help moving. I could not believe how many people came to help! We had everything out of the storage unit and into the house or garage within 3 hours. We were so grateful for the help. I think this ward will be a pretty good one. I am also glad we moved in when we did because the rains started the very next day and didn't really let up for about 3 weeks! I was glad we had a garage to put everything until we found a place for it. While Russell was at work the kids and I moved in and emptied as many boxes as we could. It was interesting finding places for everything... We headed back to St. George on Sunday May 17th for Cassie's Seminary Graduation, Emily's last week of school, and High School graduations. Finally on May 22nd, we made our last commute to the Cache Valley. We were finally moved in and here to stay. We celebrated by having fun over Memorial Day. First we went fishing in the Blacksmith Fort River just up the road from our house in Blacksmith Fort Canyon:
We also had a picnic with Colby's favorite; hot dogs. We could not spend much time fishing and picnicking because as soon as our hot dogs were cooked, it started raining again. We had just enough time to throw our poles in the water for a few minutes, cook our hot dogs, and eat them under a tree before it really started to pour. We decided to call it a trip and get back in the van.
The kids had a fun outing anyway. Instead of just heading home, we took a drive up to Hardware Ranch, a big elk reserve. We didn't see any elk, probably because of the rain, but it was a beautiful drive anyway.
Sunday we went to church for the first time in our new ward. Everyone was really friendly and said hello to us and welcomed us to the ward. Then Logan got sick and I had to take him home... It was a good first day...
On Monday, May 25th, Memorial Day, we had a barbecue with the Phillips'. It was really fun getting together with family. The Phillips are really fun to be around too.
The kids had a blast playing with their older cousins. Stacey took the kids for a ride in the wagon while they waved their flags and pretended they were in a parade. Then Kristy's friend, Mike, took them for a ride on his long board. Let's just say they didn't want to get off.
Thanks for inviting us to your barbecue Phillips! We had so much fun. Oh yeah and we love Uncle Paul's photo bomb in that first picture. Definitely the perfect photo op. So far we are having a good time in Logan and slowly but surely getting all of the boxes unpack. It is definitely a process but we love our new house and all the extra room we have to play in.
Happy Memorial Day!
