December is the time for Christmas Concerts. Being in both choir and piano, Emily was a busy girl. First she had her piano recital at the Cache Valley Assisted Living Center.
During this recital, Emily played "Away in a Manger" and "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer." For "Rudolf," Emily and I played a duet together. It was really fun playing with my daughter! That is something I never thought I would do but now I want to do it again! Emily practiced so hard for this recital. Theses songs were probably some of her more difficult pieces so far. She practiced each night even though sometimes it was a fight. After all of her practicing, she finally got the songs. down. Then it was time to practice the duet with me. We practiced over and over for many nights before the recital and finally got comfortable playing together. On the night of the recital, we both had butterflies in our stomachs! But we got up there, Emily played her first song and then we played together. We did amazing! After Emily took her bow and we sat down we both sighed with relief! It was such a good recital. To celebrate, we went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse. The kids loved it.
Because the recital was held at the Assisted Living home, some of the residents were able to attend and listen. One funny thing about that though was that there was this one 96-year-old guy that sang along with every song that was played! He was no where in sync or in tune with the piano player but he just belted out those tunes. Another resident was yelling, "Jerry! Be quiet!!" and then when he stopped, she started singing along too. We tried hard not to laugh and the kids tried really hard not to get messed up because of the singing. Don't you just love old people!
The next concert was the Canyon Colt Choir Concert:
The kids in this Canyon Choir are really quite good. This year they sang some more traditional, well-known Christmas songs. One of the crowd's favorites was when they had an "Elvis" sing "Blue Christmas." It was pretty funny. Another funny one was "I'm Gettin' Nuttin' for Christmas." Some of the older kids acted out the parts of the song and we all laughed. Some of my favorites were "Where Are You Christmas" from the Grinch movie, and Alan Jackson's "Let There Be Christmas." They also sang some other fun ones like "Sleigh Ride", "All I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth," "White Christmas," and "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year." Emily's favorite song they sang in the concert was "Mary Did You Know." This is one of her favorite songs.
In all we attended some pretty awesome Christmas Concerts this year. Good Job Emily!
