We have made it a tradition now that we live closer to Salt Lake to go see the Christmas lights at Temple Square. This year we were able to stop by on our way home from St. George after Thanksgiving. The kids love seeing the Temple and the whole square lit up.
As we walked in there was something different and then Tiff and I noticed that there was not as many lights up this year. Don't get me wrong there were still a lot of lights and the place looked amazing, but in some areas there were no lights where last year there were lights.
It was nice this year because the snow had not come yet, so it made walking and pushing the stroller easier. Even though there was no snow, it was still really cold. We all bundled up and took our stroll around Temple Square.
We especially liked seeing the large Nativity scene of with Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. We listened to the account in Luke 2 and Matthew read as the spotlight shown on the characters being talked about. We love listening to this scripture story.
While at Temple Square, we saw the two statues dedicated to the Aaronic and Melchizedek priesthood. These statues depict Joseph Smith receiving the priesthood from John the Baptist, and Peter, James, and John. It was fun to have Tiffany talk to the boys about what these statues meant. The boys are getting old enough they are understanding more about the Priesthood and what it does. It was fun teaching them about these two statues.
Another fun thing to see at Temple Square is the different Nativity scenes from around the world. We like trying to guess which country each scene is from.
We love seeing the lights at Temple Square. It is a great way to get in the Christmas Spirit and kick off the Christmas Season. But more importantly, it helps us remember the true meaning of Christmas and remember the birth of our Savior.
