Happy Birthday America and Me!

Happy Independence Day!!  This 4th of July weekend was full of parties, family, and of course fun.  We had our first visitors this weekend too.  All of Russell's family came up to visit us and spent the weekend at our house.  We had a full house but it was a fun time and I hope everyone felt welcome and comfortable in our home.  We started the weekend off with a fun party with the Phillips' on July 3rd.  These guys really know how to throw a celebration!

We all took funny pictures with the fun photo booth props.  Stacy was an excellent photographer too.

No summer party is complete without a little water fun.

As you can see Colby and Logan had a blast in the pool.  I even got an awesome shot of Logan flying into the pool.  SuperBaby!

And to top it off, Uncle Paul made this killer dunking booth!  Yeah he MADE it.

Let's just say the water was a little colder than you would suspect.  It definitely took your breath away went it hit you especially when you were not expecting it.
It would not be a Farnsworth/Phillips party without a little food fight!  This started out as an innocent pie eating contest and turned into a pie-smashing-in-your-face contest when just when it seemed like Russell was going to win, Sean smashed a pie right into his face.  Then it was on; pie was flying everywhere.  Even Emily got into it and threw a whole pie at Tyler and hit him directly in the face.  It was a priceless once in a lifetime moment, we could not believe she had hit him so perfectly without him even knowing what happened.  I am still laughing about it.  Well after all was said and done, all of the guys had pie all over their faces and in their beards and everywhere!  Time to get back in the dunking booth...
Colby and Logan seized the opportunity to lick the remaining bits of whipped cream out of the pie tins.  They were not going to let that good stuff go to waste!

Then it was BBQ time with Paul as the grill master:

Yummy hot dogs and hamburgers definitely say Happy 4th of July!  I love this funny picture of Colby in the big glasses.
We all had a blast at this party.  It was so nice to be surrounded with family and goofing off.  Sherelle was awesome enough paint all of the girls' fingernails red, white, and blue and then paint fireworks or flags on them too!  We looked so festive! (Logan also got his fingernails painted because he was not going to be left out of the fun.)

That night we watched the Logan City firework show shot off at the USU Stadium.  We watched from the top of the mountain near the Phillip's house so we could see the whole valley.  It was really cool but I was so tired that Logan and I slept through most of it...

The next morning (July 4th) we woke up bright and early to run the Blacksmith Fork Freedom Run 15k.  Traci, Sean, Jennifer, Russell and I all ran the race.  It was really fun and a beautiful run through the canyon.  Well the morning didn't really start out as we had planned...  We were running a few minutes late to get to the race so we told Sean to drive fast up the canyon.  So for the first time in his life (Traci said) he was speeding.  He passed one car on a down hill and crossed back into the right lane going a little fast just as a cop passes us going the other way.  We knew we were in trouble when the cop slowed down and turned around to follow us.  We felt soooo bad because this was the first time Sean had ever gotten pulled over before and it was our fault.  The cop told us to slow down and Sean and Traci played innocent saying they were out of town and didn't know the speed limit.  Luckily the cop let us off with a warning but we were definitely humbled...  Finally we made it to the start line of the race and picked up our packets just in time.  Here we are at the beginning of the race:

And at the end.  We all made the 9.3 miles down the canyon, up the HILL into Hyrum, and finished at the Hyrum City Park.  I came in first of our group with a time of 1:19 followed by Sean with 1:24, Russell at 1:27, and Jen and Traci with about 1:45.  We were all tired but excited to have finished the race.  Russell said it was his first and last 15K.  I said bring on the marathon training!

LeeAnn, Tyler and Rick met us at the finish line with all of the kids and cheered us on.  After the race, we ate a big "chuck wagon" breakfast at the park.  While the kids played at the park, the runner's headed home to get showered and cleaned up before heading back to the park to watch the parade.

The parade was really cool and quite long.  The kids got a lot of candy.  This day was probably the hottest day we have had so far in Hyrum.  It was somewhere in the 90's!  We were all sweating.  Can you believe we use to live in St. George where we thought 90 degrees was a cool day!  We are definitely getting acclimatized.

After the parade, we all kind of crashed at home and most of the adults took naps while the kids did some art projects and played Hide and Seek.  Then it was time for our own barbecue.
I didn't get any pictures except of the yummy red, white and blue food.... Russell made Dutch oven potatoes and chicken and I made all of the festive side dishes.  It was really fun being with everyone.  Just before dark, the fire department came over and sprayed the empty lot behind us and to the side of us with water.  They were making sure all of the dry grass was wet just in case one of the fireworks started a fire.  The Mountain Crest High School is right behind our house on the other side of the empty lot and the fire works for Hyrum are shot off at the high school.  So we pretty much have front row seat to see the fireworks every 4th of July!
Any way, while the fire department was spraying down the open field, their master stream pretty much soaked our yard too and us and put an end to our barbecue.  We were kind of mad that we were not given some warning but on the other hand, I am glad they were taking such precautions to save our house in case of a fire.  So we moved the party to the front yard where we did some Sparklers and had Red, White and Blue floats while we waited for the firemen to be done and the fireworks to start.  I had such high hopes for these floats but they didn't turn out as planned.  We had Red Vines for straws (red), vanilla ice cream (white), and then blue Kool-Aid made with Club Soda (blue) for the liquid.  Everything was good except the Kool-Aid but if you added a bit more ice cream than soda, it wasn't too bad.   Unfortunately we will not be making these floats again unless we can find something better for the blue soda.  (Pinterest fail...)

Anyway back to the fireworks...  They were awesome!!!
We had the perfect seats to see the show.  We just sat right in our backyard and had the best view.  And no I did not fall asleep during these fireworks.

We finally called it a night after a busy day.

The next day was Sunday, July 5 and my 30th birthday.....  I am so old....  Russell had to work so he left that morning.  He said he was glad to go to work!  Thanks...  Jen and Rick had gone home after the fireworks the night before and LeeAnn and Tyler went home just before it was time for church.  Traci and Sean decided to stay and go to church with the kids and me.  It was nice to have a few extra hands to help me at church.  They left after church and I put the kids down for a nap and I crashed for like 2 hours.  I was so exhausted from the busy weekend but it was so nice to be with family.  The kids must have been tired too because they all slept even Emily.  By the time we woke up it was 5 o'clock and time to head over the the fire station because Russell had planned a birthday dinner for me there.  He invited the families of the other guys on his crew that day to come over too.  It was fun getting to know some of the other fire families and having the kids play together.  Dinner was really good and Russell even made me a cake.  For my birthday the kids made me birthday cards and Russell got me a Hydration Belt for running.  I have been wanting one of these for a long time.  This will really come in handy when I am running the really long runs while I train for the marathon.  In all I had a great birthday.  I don't really know if I like the idea of being 30 but I guess I will have to get used to it.  Here's to hoping this year will be a good one with more ups than downs.

Happy Birthday!!
