Memorial Day Fun

We decided to have a "Stay"cation this Memorial Day weekend.  We enjoyed the outdoors and are loving the warm weather finally coming to Cache Valley.  We started the weekend with a picnic at the Hyrum Hydro Park up Blacksmith Fork Canyon.

The kids had a blast climbing trees, eating hot dogs, throwing sticks in the river and playing on the playground.
Before we headed home, Emily had a great idea of building a boat out of all of the fallen twigs and branches.  Russell weaved them all together while the kids had a competition on who could bring the most branches.  When it was finished, Russell threw it in the river and we watched it float downstream never to be seen again.  The kids were so mad at that but soon forgot about it.  Saturday was such a fun day.

Monday we got together with a bunch of our neighbors and friends and had a barbecue up the canyon.  It was such a nice night that we didn't want to come home.

This isn't about Memorial Day but I had to put it in here for fun.  Colby and Emily had their last soccer games of the season last Saturday.  Unfortunately it was pouring rain and freezing cold.  Here is a final picture of Colby and his team:
Happy Memorial Day!

Weekend of Weddings

We headed back down to St. George this weekend to get the rest of Colby's dental work done.  This appointment was pretty easy and they just had to put in one silver crown and a filling.  Now Colby had two silver teeth and is hopefully cavity free for a little while...

Also while we were down, we were able to attend my best friend's wedding reception.
Charlotte was my best friend in high school and we were pretty much insepreable.  In fact people would confuse us for each other all the time.  When I found out she was getting married, I was so excited and was not missing it for anything.

I was so good to see Charlotte again and talk to her for a little while at the reception.  I don't know her husband, Travis, at all but after talking to them at the wedding, he seems to be a really nice guy.  I am so happy for them and I loved seeing the smiles on their faces.

After Charlotte's reception, the kids and I drove the long drive home and got home at around 1 am.  The reason I drove so late was because we had another wedding to attend in Logan at 9 that next morning.

We were able to attend Calen and Rochelle's wedding in the Logan Temple.  Temple weddings are always so amazing and it was so nice to be with all of our family in the temple.

Everyone cheered as the bride and groom came out of the temple.

Calen and Rochelle were so happy and excited and we couldn't help but be happy for them as well.  Rochelle is perfect for Calen and shares his funny personality.  We love them both!

After family pictures at the temple, we all headed over to Pizza Pie Cafe for the luncheon.  The great food at Pizza Pie made us all a little tired so Russell's family headed back to our house where we all crashed and slept until it was time to go the the reception that night.

The reception was held at this amazing house in Garland.  It was an absolutely beautiful outdoor reception.

And no wedding reception would be complete with out the cake smash!

And of course family.

Here are the three pregnant cousins.  Traci is due to pop any day now and Stacey and I are due the exact same week in September.  We had to get a picture while we were all together.

That night we sent the newlyweds off on their honeymoon in a classic car.  I hope they have fun in Jackson Hole.  Congratulations Calen and Ro!

What a good weekend for some weddings!

No Teeth and Graduation

This weekend Colby and I travelled down to St. George.  We made the trip so Colby could go to the dentist.  I took him to a dentist up here because I knew he had some cavities that needed to be filled but I was not excited about how this dentist wanted to go about filling them.  Colby is a great dental patient.  He doesn't squirm or cry or anything while the dentist is working on him.  This is why I was surprised that the dentist wanted us to take Colby to a surgical center and have him totally knocked out in order for the dentist to do the work.  I told him that was not necessary because Colby has had fillings before and was totally fine with the laughing gas.  The dentist said that even with conscious sedation we would still have to go to the surgical center and we could not be in the room with Colby while the work was going on.  I was not at all okay with this so we called our dentist in St. George that did Colby's fillings before and asked if he would do the work instead.  To me it was worth the gas money and drive to have a dentist do the work how we wanted and we knew he would do a great job.  So Colby and I made the trip to St. George.

On the way there, Colby started complaining his front tooth was hurting and he thought it was ready to fall out.  I didn't think anything of it because Colby is always saying he wants to loose a tooth.  When we got to my parents house and was getting ready for bed, I looked at the tooth he said was hurting and noticed a bump on the gum above it.  I though oh great I hope that tooth is not abscessed.  Luckily we were heading to the dentist the next day.

At the dentist we found out that sure enough, Colby's front tooth had abscessed and needed to be pulled.  I still don't know how it got abscessed but we think Colby must have bumped it hard on something because there was a little crack in the tooth.  Colby did amazing at the dentist he held really still and let the dentist do his work.  We decided to split the work into two visits because of the abscess and luckily an appointment was available for the very next week!  That never happens!  To top it off, I was already planning on coming down that weekend for my friend's wedding.

The dentist was worried that Colby would feel bad for loosing a tooth and I told him Colby would be so excited.  So we left the dentist with one silver tooth, a filling, and a missing front tooth.  Colby could not have been happier to loose a tooth.  He had been waiting his whole life for this he said!  Colby was also excited about the silver tooth because Emily has two silver teeth and he kept asking me when he could get a silver tooth.  I told him a silver tooth wasn't really something you want but he was excited anyway.
I don't think any kid has been as excited to loose a tooth as Colby was.  He showed everyone his tooth and was so proud of it.

When we got home, he showed Russell, Emily, and Logan and they were all so happy for Colby!  To top it off, the Tooth Fairy left him a gold dollar and let him keep the tooth!

Also while we were in St. George, it was the Dixie College graduation.  We were able to attend both graduations and see Haley graduate with her Bachelor's Degree and Chelsie graduate with her Associates Degree.

Even though graduations aren't the most exciting things to attend, graduating is awesome.  Congratulations Haley and Chelsie!  Way to go!!

We were happy to attend the graduations and support these two graduates before heading back home.

CCLT Leadership Run

Each year Canyon Elementary puts on a 5K/1 mile fun run to help raise money for the school and the Leader in Me program the school uses.  The race is put on by the Canyon Colt Leadership Team (CCLT).  Since Emily is part of the CCLT, she was able to help out and we were able to participate in the run.

This year the race was so much bigger than last year.  There were probably 400 runners in the race this year.  The race was able to raise $7,000 for the school through pledges and race entries!  The principal was so excited.

Emily ran the 1 mile race with her friends, Ayzleigh and Jadaci.  They were so fast and finished their mile in 9:54 minutes!!  I was expecting closer to 12 minutes so I was not at all prepared to take her picture as she crossed the finish line in less than 10 minutes!  Good job Emily!  I think she is going to be a runner just like me.  She had a blast running with her friends trying to beat the boys in her class.  Here are a couple of pictures of her and her friends at the finish line.

Mrs. McBride (her teacher) and Mrs. Williamson (the principal) couldn't help but photo bomb the picture.  They are both such fun people.  Here are a few more friend pictures from after the race:

After the race, we all enjoyed a good spaghetti dinner cooked by the awesome lunch ladies and then had drawings for some fun prizes.  Emily won a T-shirt and water bottle.  I was hoping we would win the treadmill they were giving away but we had no such luck...
The next day at school, there was a make-up mile for those kids that couldn't make it to the actual race.  As a member of the CCLT, Emily got to help with the aid station during that race.  Here she is acting crazy with her CCLT friends and Mrs. Williamson.

We are looking forward to this race next year.
