Happy Birthday, Charlotte! I can't believe you are 9 years old. Charlotte is such a kind, caring girl. She is always aware of others and tries to include others in her activities. She loves being with friends, playing Barbies with Brooklyn, drawing, and reading graphic novels.
For her birthday this year, she wanted to do a camping theme. We invited all of her friends to come over for some fun outdoor camping activities. All of the kids had a great time.
For our first activity, we all went fishing in our fish pond.
Each kid had a chance to cast their line into the pond and see what they could catch. Logan was our big fish and shared his goldfish crackers with everyone. It was funny to hear some of the kids talk while they were fishing. Some of them said they had never been fishing before so this was fun!
For our next activity, we all went on a bear hunt. We stomped through the tall grass, swam through the water, and climbed up a tree before finding the bear cave under the trampoline. Inside the cave was a scary bear that looked a lot like Russell. The bear chased us back around the tree, and through the water and grass. All the while, the kids were screaming and running.
We decided that maybe the bear was hungry so we took some time to feed him. This was a fun corn hole game that the kids loved playing over and over to see who could get the most bean bags in the bear's mouth.
Once the bear was sufficiently fed, we discovered that there were other woodland creatures that needed our help.
Each of the kids were able to rescue and adopt their own critter to take home. There were foxes, rabbits, bears, and squirrels. The kids made collars out of beads, carriers for houses, and an adoption certification for each of their animals.
After the activities, Charlotte was able to open her presents.
She received many fun things from her friends including Barbies, stuffed animals, a blanket, art supplies, and more. She loved everything they gave her.
No camping trip would be complete without a camp fire. We finished the night off by roasting hot dogs and s'mores.
The kids loved this. There were a few that had never cooked over a fire so they were excited to try something new. Many of them wanted to skip the hot dog and real food and just start in on the s'mores. Everyone was having a great time.
For her cake, we made a s'more and stuck a candle in it. This was the perfect cake for her today.
Everyone sang "Happy Birthday" and she blew out the candles.
To finish off the night, after most of the kids had gone home, a few of the neighbor kids stayed around and had fun jumping on the trampoline.
They all took their critters and had jumping/throwing contests with them. This kept them entertained for hours until some of the critters jumped a little too high and landed on top of the trailer. We were able to retrieve them but after that they were a little more careful.
For her birthday, Charlotte wanted to get her ears pierced. I guess she wanted pain for her birthday? Charlotte, Brooklyn, and I took a trip to Claire's to get her ears pierced. Charlotte was really excited and scared at the same time.
The earrings she picked out are little diamond flowers. Charlotte has been wanting pierced ears for a while now so she was really happy despite the little bit of pain to get them. She was very brave! Brooklyn wanted her ears pierced too that is until she saw the little gun they used to pierce the ears. After seeing Charlotte, Brooklyn said "I'm not doing that!" It was quite funny.
Charlotte's official birthday was on Sunday so we got to hang out as a family on her day. After church we opened a few more presents.
Emily passed down some of her jewelry and a jewelry box. Charlotte was excited to receive the jewelry especially the earrings now that her ears are pierced and she can wear them. She also wanted a big sketch book so she can draw all of her favorite things.
After dinner we had some cake and ice cream and sang "Happy Brithday" again.
This cake was pretty fun to make. It was a camping scene complete with a tent, river, trees, and a campfire for the candles. Charlotte loved it.
Happy Birthday Charlotte! I hope you had a great time celebrating. We love you!
