We had the opportunity to spend some time in St. George over Mother’s Day weekend. It was nice to get away and enjoy the sunshine. We originally planned on going down for a fun Mother’s Day Tea with the Morwood girls. This is something my mom wants to start doing as a new tradition. It was really fun getting together with all of my sisters and nieces.
Before the Tea, we hit the mountain bike trails and had a good time. We decided to go out to Hurricane and ride the Gem and Cowbell trails.
This was a really fun ride with the kids. They were all teasing me because I don't know how to ride but hey I was able to keep up with them the whole way.
At one point in the trail there was this steep decline. Colby had to show us all up by going down the rocky parts. Russell also a took the hard trail down and was good. Emily, Logan, and I were not doing it. We took the smarter route.
While following Logan, there was one area with a steep part that I thought I could make it down. Logan went down first and then he kind of slid out so I slammed on my brakes when I saw him go down. Unfortunately, I slammed a little too hard on the front brake and endo-ed! My bike flew over my head in a marvelous flip and I landed gracefully in the dirt. Russell and Colby said all they could see was a flying bike and a dust cloud. It was awesome I'm sure. Well I was fine. A little bit of road rash and a lot of hurt pride but I got back up and kept going.
The boys took a few more sketchy trails and did some fun downhill while we watched. Then we took some trail through a wash that led us to I don't know where but it was not the right trail. We had to back track a bit even riding on the main dirt road back to the real trail. Finally we asked someone, that looked like they knew where they were going, where the trail back to the parking lot was and he was able to point us in the right direction. We finally made it to the steep climb that Cowbell and Dead Ringer are known for. It was a steep climb but we made it and were able to ring the victory cowbell at the top. Whew!
We decided to call it a day and headed back to the parking lot. This was a fun trail and one I would do again. I would just be more careful on the downhill and not slam on my front brake! We all had a great time and it was fun spending time together doing something the kids love.
We will have to find some more fun trails like this to do in the future.
