Blue & Gold Banquet

This week was our ward's Blue & Gold Banquet for Cub Scouts.  Since Russell is the Cub Master, we have been busy planning and preparing for this night.  The boys decided the theme they wanted for the Banquet was "Superheros."  We had a great turnout and fed over 100 people!
Here are our fun decorations before everyone arrived for the Banquet.  The tables were of course decorated with blue and gold (or yellow).  The theme for this pack meeting was resourcefulness so all of the decorations were made out of things we already had around the house.  The table centerpieces were made out of cans wrapped with construction paper.  Inside the cans were signs that said, "POW!", "CRASH!", "BANG!" and other superhero comic book words.  They were simple but perfect for our themes.  We also decorated with blue and yellow balloons.  On the balloons we attached black paper masks to make them look like superheros in disguise.

For dinner we served "Spidey Webs" (Spaghetti), "Villain Fighting Veggies" (green salad), and "Super Rolls."  The food was really good but we made waaaay too much spaghetti.  I am really bad at judging portion sizes so when I heard we were planning on 100 people, I got a little nervous and thought we needed a lot more food.  So we ended up making 3 big roaster pans of spaghetti and only needed one and a half.  So needless to say we had a lot left over.  We gave a lot away but we still had spaghetti for dinner every day this week!  So for future reference, if you are feeding 100 you only need 6 one pound bags of noodles not 16!  Anyway better to have too much than not enough, right!  Thanks to all those who helped us cook for an army!

Finally, for the decorations around the cake table, we used a couple more of the table centerpieces and for the backdrop I used the banner I made for Logan's birthday.  Instead of Brown Bear, Brown Bear, I used the back side and glued pictures of the different superheros on it.  While searching the Internet, we found these cool images that went with our theme so Russell made posters out of them.  The first image is of Clark Kent ripping off his uniform and underneath is his Scout uniform.  The second image is the back of a Cub Scout boy with his neckerchief on and the caption reads, "Don't judge a hero by the size of his cape."  Both were perfect for our superhero Blue & Gold!

At 6 o'clock the boys and their families started arriving and then the fun started:

After everyone had eaten, Cub Master Farnsworth started the program and handed out the awards to the boys:
We cannot forget the best part of the Blue & Gold Banquet are the decorated cakes!  The boys brought some pretty amazing cakes this year.  All of them were decorated like their favorite superheros.

The scouts and their families voted on which cake they liked the best and these were the winners.  Kason Webb got the most votes with his Captain Moroni cake.  I thought this one was cool because Captain Moroni was a true hero.  Second place was Greg Shipley with his cool Hulk cake complete with rice crispy buildings and all.
As part of the program, Russell spotlighted each of the scout leaders one by one and expressed that they were real heroes in the scouting program.  We gave them each a cape and mask to wear for the night as well as their favorite candy bar.  On the capes, I ironed on a shield that said CS Superhero (Cub Scout Superhero).  Then, during the Banquet, all of the boys signed their names on each of the capes.  The leaders loved it and proudly wore their capes all night.  It was a good Banquet and it seemed like everyone had a good time.  I hope they did.
