Goodbye St. George

Well we did it.  We sold our house and are really heading up to Logan to start this new adventure in our lives.  We sold our house on March 30 to those people that came and walked through the house during Colby's birthday party.  It was kind of a long process to agree on an actual selling price because we kept offering and counter offering each other.  The first offer came in at a total low ball slap in the face.  They offered $17,000 less than our asking price.  We really wanted to just say no but we decided to see what would happen if we counter offered at a higher sales price.  We ended up selling for $8,000 less than our asking price which we still were not 100% happy with but as time went on we realized that we were blessed to sell our house at that time and we ended up getting just what we needed to put a great down payment on a new house in Logan. So it all worked out.  In the meantime, we had been up to Logan looking at houses all over the Cache Valley.  Each time we went up there, we looked at about 10 houses each day.  We finally decided we loved one house in particular in Hyrum so we put an offer on it with the contingency that we sell our house in St. George first.  Well the sellers did not like that contingency and did not accept our offer.  We were so bummed because we loved that house.  We kept a close eye on this house in Hyrum by checking on it each day on the MLS sites.  When the sellers lowered the price of this house by $5,000 we really started to get nervous.  When we finally put our house under contract we went back up to Logan to look at some other houses and then walk through the Hyrum house one more time to see if we still liked it.  Yes, we did still like it so we put another offer in that next day.  Now that we knew what we were getting out of our house and that the price on this new house had been lowered, we felt pretty good about our offer.   We wanted to give a fair offer and not make the sellers feel like we were low balling them like our buyers made us feel like.  For our first offer, we offered for $3,000 less than their asking price plus closing costs.  We countered back and forth a couple of times until we talked to the bank and finally decided that the win-win situation would be for us to go with our original offer price but we would pay our own closing costs.  I never really felt right about asking them to pay our closing costs anyway because I felt like they were our responsibility.  Any way, that way our loan would stay the same and the sellers would get what they wanted and needed out of the house.  So, long story short, things work out how they are supposed to and we got our house for a better deal than the first time we made an offer on it!  So in a way it was good they rejected our first offer.

There is about a month in between closing on our house in St. George and buying and closing on our house in Hyrum.  There is also about two more months of school left for Emily.  So in the meantime, our stuff will be chilling (literally) in a storage unit in Hyrum and we will be living with my parents until school gets out around Memorial Day.

So this was a sad and stressful day.  Actually the last two months our house has been for sale has been full of stressful days.  I told Russell I was never moving again or selling another house because I cannot handle the stress.  Any way we got all of our stuff boxed up and on March 28th moved everything into the biggest Budget moving truck they had.

We were so blessed to have the ward members come and help us move the big stuff out of the house.  Later our family members came and helped us pack the boxes and other stuff.  Clint was a great help by stacking everything just so.  We called him the Lego man.  Even Colby helped by packing the things he could lift up the ram and into the truck.  Logan spent the day with Great-Grandma; his favorite place to be.  We will sure miss living next to her.

As we were packing, our realtor called again and told us the buyers wanted to come do a final walk through.  We were getting so fed up with these people just wanting to come by at the most inconvenient times!  We said fine but we would be here moving stuff and cleaning.  He said that was fine.  So at around 2:30 they came by with their parents and family to look at the house again.  To tell you the truth, I was glad they came.  We got to meet the couple who was buying the house and they seemed like really nice people.  They are just a young couple who are getting married soon.  Their parents were so excited about the house and kept telling us how nice it was and how well we had taken care of it.  They also raved about the awesome yard.  After meeting them and talking to them, I felt a lot better about selling the house to them and I hope they love it as much as we have.

After cleaning and doing a final walk through to see if we had forgotten anything, we bid a sad farewell to our first home.  I couldn't believe it was actually happening.  We drove the moving truck and everything else to my parents house, our new temporary home.

The next day was our last day in our ward.  We have loved this ward so much.  It was been our family and our friends and so much more.  I don't know if any ward can top this great Sunset 4th ward.  Lucky me, I had to talk in sacrament meeting on our final Sunday.  We talked as a Relief Society presidency.  Sister Gough knew how hectic my life was at this time so she told me I could just bear my testimony.  That was a blessing in itself because there was no way I would have been able to prepare a talk but I did want to publicly thank the ward and my Heavenly Father for our many blessings.  I bore my testimony on answered prayers and how this move (as hard as it is) and this new job was an answer to many prayers.  This was a great Sunday and I felt we left at a high point.

Monday, March 30 we finally closed and sold our house.  I thought this would be a sad day, and in a way it was, but, to tell you the truth, it was actually quite a relief!  After signing the papers and picking up our big check, I felt so lite! It was like a huge stress was taken off of me.  We took our check to the bank to deposit it in our account and had a good laugh in the process.  We handed the check to the teller and told her we wanted to cash this check.  She looked at the amount and got a really worried look on her face and said, "Uh...Umm...Uh!"  We laughed and said we just want to deposit it into our account.  Her face was instantly relieved and she said "Oh! Okay, I can do that."  We couldn't help but smile.  We felt so rich!  I think this was the first night in months I actually slept well.

We took Emily out of school for Wednesday, April 1st, and left right when she got out of school on Tuesday, March 31st, and headed up to Logan to empty our moving truck into our storage unit.  Wednesday morning we were moving boxes again.  A couple of people from the fire department came to help us unload.  Then my dad and Clint drove our car up to help us unload too.  We were so grateful for the help because there was no way I could have helped Russell move all of our junk.  Luckily our 24 foot packed truck fit comfortably in our 22 foot storage unit.  Explain that...

After unloading the truck, we took Dad and Clint through our new house.  It was fun to show them and exciting to think it was almost ours.  We dropped the Budget truck off in Ogden and then Russell headed back up to Logan to work and I drove my dad, Clint, and the kids back to St. George.  Driving through Lehi, of course Clint made us stop at Cabela's!  The kids absolutely loved it there; they thought it was the zoo!  The especially liked seeing the fish:

We got to watch the fish get fed and it definitely was a feeding frenzy!  It was so cool to watch.  It was also fun to see all of the different kinds of fish in the tanks. We saw many kinds of trout, bass, salmon, sturgeon, catfish and more.
We finally pulled Yod out of the store and headed back on the road.  We arrived in St. George close to midnight and we were all tired.  We have not officially said goodbye to St. George yet but it is getting closer.  There are so many changes coming up in the next couple months.  Stay tuned...
