Fourth of July Camping

We love camping over the 4th of July. It had been a couple of years since we have been up to Cove Mountain and we really missed it. Every time we go there we have so much fun and make so many memories.   Grandpa's property is the best.  We each have our own camp spots.  The kids love going there and hanging out with cousins and just running around free.

While we were camping, we decided to use the time wisely and work on a lot of Colby's Cub Scout requirements.  He is working toward getting his Wolf Badge.  One of the requirements for that was to put together a campfire program.  So, while we had the campfire going and were roasting hot dogs, Colby, Tyrel, and Jack planned a fun program for us.

While we were around the fire, Colby told us about Joseph Smith and why he was important.  Then the boys got together to do a funny skit and even formed a band and played a few "songs" on the logs.  It was a great Cub Scout campfire program.  It was fun to just relax and have fun by the fire as the night slipped away.
Grandma's and Grandpa's property is more than just a camping place. There are a lot of swings to swing on. Charlotte loved her little tire swing as well as the normal swings. She wanted to be like the big kids and swing on the stick swing, but she is not quite big enough yet.

It would not be camping if we didn't bring out the fishing poles and fish. Like I always says "We had a great time fishing because no one caught anything." Even Charlotte got to cast in her pole and she had fun.  However, I think there was more kayaking than fishing.

This summer was the first time we got to use our new kayaks, and the kids had a blast with them. Up at the property there are three lakes and I think we hit two out of the three lakes. Colby, Logan and Russell went out one day to Annabelle Lake.  They started on one side and kayaked all the way to the other end of the lake. I thought the boys would not even make it, but I was wrong they had a blast. While they were out there, Logan and Russell decided to come back in to shore but Colby wanted to stay out longer.  We said sure and I went out with him. Not more than a few minutes later, a big wind storm came through and Colby and I had to work really hard to paddle back into shore against the wind.  We kept telling Colby to paddle harder and finally he and I made it to shore. We were glad to all be off the lake after that because the water got really choppy.

This year we also got one more four wheeler so now we all can go four wheeler riding together. Emily took advantage of this and kept asking when she could learn how to ride the four wheeler. It is a gear shift four wheeler, so being on the mountain was a great time for her to learn.  She was one happy girl to get on the wheeler and ride on her own. She was even more excited to go out with her cousins when they got on the mountain. She got pretty good at riding.

On the 4th, we all took a big four-wheeler ride together.  We went up the road towards Koosharem and had a great time. It was an odd year for weather and there was still snow on the ground in some areas on the mountain so Grandpa wanted to go to the top and see how much snow was there. Everyone had fun and got dirty. It was really nice to have two four-wheelers to divided the kids. Charlotte and Logan got lucky and got to ride in Grandma's and Grandpa's new Razor. The story of the Razor is kind of a funny one.  So Grandma and Grandpa went down the mountain to run some errands and planned to be back later in the evening.  Emily wanted to go so she went with them.  While we were in camp that evening, we heard a Razor coming up the mountain. We thought it was some campers driving by, but the Razor turned into camp and Grandma and Emily got out. I guess one of their errands was to go buy a Razor!
There are always amazing views while you go four wheeling.  Especially when you are on top of the mountain.  We could see for miles.

We also got to see some amazing wildlife while we were camping for the week.  As we drove up to camp, we saw three beautiful big bull elk.  They were not even scared of us and just watched us drive by.  We also saw a lot of deer while four wheeling and driving around.  Everyone had a blast the whole week.

We also had a great time making a cool four wheeling trail on the property for the kids. It turned out pretty good and just the right size for a four wheeler.  There are still a lot of logs and things to clear out but once it is done, it will be perfect for the kids to ride on.

On one of the days, we did a fun pioneer activity that all the kids had a great time with. We saved tin cans and made rope stilts.

They had to figure it out at first but that was the fun part of the whole activity. Once they got the hang of it, they all did really good walking around. Some of them were bummed because their cans got bent.

We love going camping, relaxing, and having camping food. We can't wait to go again.
