Lake McDonald - Glacier Trip Day 5

This was the first day the whole family was together and we decided to go on a boat tour of Lake McDonald together.

It was a cool little scenic ride but not exactly what we expected from the ride.  We learned some cool facts about the Lake from the tour guide and it was cool to actually see how big the lake was.

We all thought the lake was a little small but it is actually really deep. Lake McDonald is the biggest and deepest lake in Glacier.  This lake was also quite clear like the rest of the water in the Park. Out of all the water we went to this lake was warmer than the rest.

We all had a good time relaxing and cruising around the lake. It was fun to be with Clay and his family as well as Grandma and Grandpa.  The kids liked looking out over side of the boat and looking at the water.
Logan especially loved hanging out with Chelsie, his best friend.

The view from the boat was amazing.  We did enjoy the ride but I don't know if we will do this again.  It was a little expensive for what we got.

After the boat ride, we had fun playing in the river and getting wet.

Emily was walking along the river and she slipped in and got her feet wet. She had an emotional break down because she thought we were going to be mad at her, so I randomly stepped in the water with my shoes and walked to her. That made her feel better and laugh a little.
We also walked around the Lake McDonald Lodge, one of the main Lodges in Glacier.  We loved checking out all of the fun souvenirs and window shopping.

Since we have been doing a lot of walking the last few days we decided to take it easy today and relax at the lake and kayak.  Glacier is really strict on what boats can go on the water in the park.  We had to get our kayaks registered and the rangers made sure they were sparkling clean before we could take them on the water.  We finally got the clearance and were off to have fun.

This was probably our favorite part of the vacation because we just had fun and were not rushed or anything.  The water was a little cold but not bad.  The kids just turned into fish and played in the water the rest of the day.

The water was so smooth it was like glass. This made kayaking really easy and relaxing.  I did not want to get out of the kayak.   I just wanted to go around the whole lake.

Our friends, Jim and Sineve, came down from Canada again to spend the day with us as well. They had never been kayaking before.  They loved it and were pro kayakers by the end of the day.  It was really nice to just enjoy the day.

After a good time at the lake, we headed back to camp to start dinner.  Jim and Sineve came back with us.

We made Dutch oven potatoes and chicken and the two Canadians loved every bite.  Jim told us it was not often that they got to have Dutch oven cooking.  After dinner we said goodbye to them because they had to get back before the border closed at 10.
Here is our whole clan at the end of the day.  They are a fun group!  Lacie and Grandma made us all matching shirts for the trip. The shirts said, "Glacier: been there, hiked that!". That is so true, we hiked so much while we were there!
