Pumpkin Walk 2016: American Icons

Another fun Fall tradition we started when we moved to Hyrum is the annual North Logan Pumpkin Walk.  We loved going to the Pumpkin Walk and seeing all of the decorated pumpkins and scenes.

This year the theme was American Icons.  Each scene had something to do with America and the some of the things America is famous for.  The very first display was this huge American flag made out of pumpkins.  There were around 385 pumpkins used to make this flag.  It was pretty awesome. In each of the scenes we had to find the hidden ghost gourd.  It was a gourd that was painted white with big black eyes.  The kids had fun searching for the ghost in each display.  Here are a few of our favorite scenes.

Each scene was so creative and the ideas were great.  My favorite was the Peanuts scenes.  It had everything about Charlie Brown in there.  The great Pumpkin, the Red Baron, Lucy and her Psychiatric Help, Schroeder's piano, Linus' blanket, and good old Charlie Brown and Snoopy.   It was really well done.

Another of my favorites was the Norman Rockwell display.  The scenes were depictions of the famous Norman Rockwell paintings.  They were also very good.

At the end there is a special pavilion where all of the fancy carved pumpkins are displayed.  There were some really good ones this year including John Wayne, Superman, Wonder Woman, a firefighter, Clint Eastwood, and more.  Colby's favorite was of course Captain America!  Along with the fancy pumpkins we got to meet the Pumpkin Walk Witch and get a cookie.  Emily and Logan wanted a picture with the witch but Colby wanted nothing to do with her.

The Mt. Rushmore pumpkins were pretty cool and we had to get a picture of us there.  After we had seen all of the pumpkin scenes, we had a blast taking pictures in all of the picture props.
Before we left, the kids decided they needed to have a leaf fight and throw all of the fallen leaves everywhere.

Who knew a bunch of dead leaves could be so fun.  They played and threw leaves for quite a while before Charlotte and I got cold and said it was time to go.  We loved this fun Fall activity and had a blast as a family.  This was also a nice break from the busy day of processing pears and making pear sauce.  We have been lucky this year and have been given a lot of fruit to can.  We have been canning peaches, pears, and apples this year.  Our pantry is stocked full of fruit now.  Happy Fall!
