Bear World

Our family trip this summer was to Glacier National Park.  Because this is a big road trip and about a 10-12 hour drive, we decided to break it up into two days and make some stops along the way.  Our first stop was to Yellowstone's Bear World in Rexburg, ID.  We have never been here before but we had heard a lot of good things about this place. Our Get Out Passes got us free entry into the park so that was helpful too.

The first thing we did when we got to the park was go through the drive thru park.  This is where all of the bears and other wild animals are located.  As we drove through we were required to stay in our vehicle and leave the windows rolled up.  This was so the bears did not eat you I guess.  We were pretty close to some big bears though.

It was fun to see the bears up close.  They were all just chilling in the shade though because it was getting hot.  One bear was even sitting on the road just chilling.  We had to drive around it.  All of the bears were black bears but there were a few Grizzly bears in a separate area.

Along with the bears, there were other animals in the drive thru zoo.
We were able to see bison, mountain goats, deer, and elk.  There was even a very rare white elk.  The big bull elk looked really old.  He could barely hold up his head because his antlers were so heavy.  The animals were really cool to see.

When we had driven through the bear park, we stopped to explore the rest of Bear World.  First, we walked through the viewing area.  There we got to pet an actual bear hide and see other animal pelts.
Then we went outside and were able to be up close to some other animal like deer and birds.

One deer even came right up to us and we could pet it.  That was kind of scary though because I thought the deer would charge us or something but it didn't.

As we finished exploring the site, we headed over to the amusement park side of Bear World.

There were about 5 or 6 rides to go on but they were all little kid rides like at a county fair.  That was okay though.  Charlotte and Brooklyn loved them and the older kids were good sports about it.  The best was probably the little roller-coaster.

After riding all of the rides, we walked over to the new Jurassic Park area.  In this part of the park, there were a lot of life-sized dinosaur replicas. It was fun to walk along and see the huge dinosaurs.

Some of the dinosaurs even tried to chase us!  Okay not really.  The kids did have a good time riding the little T-Rex and Triceratops.

Getting eaten by dinosaurs was something we had to watch out for as well!

In the end, Bear World was pretty fun.  It was something new to see and interesting to explore.  I am glad we were able to see and experience it once.

When we had finished seeing everything and browsing the gift shop, we decided we had better get back on the road because we still had quite a ways to drive in order to get to Glacier by the next day.  We drove through the rest of the day and part of the night through all the little towns and fields of Idaho.  Then we made our way into Montana.  This was also very sparse with mostly fields, mountains, and small towns.  At around midnight, we decided to stop about an hour or two from Glacier and get some sleep.  We though we could just find a Walmart or something to stop at but there were no Walmarts around.  We ended up finding a small RV park and just spending the night.  No one was there so we didn't know if we should pay or what but we finally found their website and paid for the spot that way.  We were all tired so we just backed in and went to bed ready for a new adventure the next day.
