On the last day of school before Christmas break, Emily's preschool class put on a little Christmas program for the parents. They sang a few songs, played instruments to Jingle Bells, and were just plain cute!
The program was just held in the preschool room at the school. Here is Emily with her two friends Brinley and Jenny.
Emily loves preschool. She looks forward to going to school everyday. She is so excited to tell me what they did at school when she comes home. Here are her first school pictures:
...and her preschool class. Isn't she beautiful! Emily is a fast learner but she is also a perfectionist. If she doesn't get something right away or after a few tries, she gets frustrated. I guess she takes after me on that end. During preschool, the kids work on the computers for one of their rotations. On the computers they play learning games that advance and progress according to the students correct answers, speed of answering, and their learning abilities. Right before Thanksgiving break, Emily started having trouble with the computer games and she was getting frustrated and actually scared of the computers. I guess the game kept having her do the same problems over and over and wouldn't progress like she was used to. She was coming home crying each day. After the second day, we talked to the teacher to see what was going on. Mrs. Lunt said that Emily's computer game had progressed to a harder level than the other kids and a harder level than she was used to. So for the first time on the computers, Emily was being challenged and learning new things. We told Emily that if she needed help on a computer problem she could just ask her teacher to help her. The next day was the last day before Thanksgiving break. Emily was scared to do the computers but when the time came, she did it. When she got to the hard part, she had the teacher come over to help. Mrs. Lunt said she didn't really help Emily, she just sat by her which seemed to give Emily the moral support she needed to finish the computer game on time. I was so glad Emily was able to finish the computer game and it gave her the confidence she needed so that she wasn't sad over the break. Now Emily likes the computers and is doing better.
One sad thing that has happen at Emily's school is that her favorite teacher, Ms. Mitchell, moved away. At the first of November, Ms. Mitchell moved to Washington state to finish her schooling and advance her teaching degree. All of the kids were so sad to see her go. Ms. Mitchell was also sad to leave. I was sad to see her go too because she was a great teacher. The move was kind of sudden so it took a few weeks to find a replacement teacher. In the meantime, the assistant teachers, Mrs. Lunt and Mrs. Cluff, took charge along with a substitute and of course parent volunteers. At the first of December the kids met their new teacher, Mrs. Del Toro. The kids call her Ms. D. Emily really likes her and says she is really nice. We love preschool.
