Reading

We are participating in the Summer Reading program at the library and each week the library will have fun activities for the kids to do.  For the first week, people from Home Depot came over and helped us build wooden tool boxes.

Emily and Colby had a good time hammering the nails into their boxes and putting together their tool box.  There are a lot of fun activities planned for the summer like planting seeds, digging dinosaur bones, making clay pots, treasure hunts and even a pizza party at the end of the summer.  It will be a lot of fun to participate in the rest of the activities.  Also as part of the summer reading, we have to read 20 minutes a day and then the kids can turn their papers into the librarian for a prize.  Emily is learning how to read and is so excited to be reading her own books.  She is currently learning to read the Dick & Jane books and is doing very well I think.  Colby wants to read too so he will get the Dick & Jane books and as he is flipping through the pages he will say things like "Jump Puff Jump." or "Run Dick" or "Come Spot."  It is so funny to listen to him.  It is also cool that he remembers the words that Emily has read to him in the book.  I think it is so awesome to hear my own daughter read to me!  She is also proud of herself and takes her books with her to read to her grandmas and grandpas and cousins.

We are definitely going to keep reading and keep having fun at the library during the summer.
