Field Trips

The last 3 weeks in preschool, Emily has been learning about different occupations and hobbies so we have been going on some fun field trips.  The first week they learned about trains and train conductors so we took a trip to our neighbor who collects trains:

Brother Storm in our ward has an awesome collection of train sets that he has built over the years.  He was so nice to let us come and look at his collection and also talk to the kids about trains.  All of the kids were amazed at the fun train sets and they were also very good not to touch anything.  Thank you Brother Storm!  As a way to keep the kids in line and together as we walked to the Storm's house, Lori Olsen taught the kids about the different sounds a train whistle makes.  She taught them that different combinations of short and long whistles mean stop, go, and reverse.  She used her train whistle as we walked to keep the kids together and have them stop and go at the right times.  The kids loved it and stayed right together.

The next week Anna White taught about school and teachers so she took the kids to Sunset Elementary for a tour.  I didn't go with them but Emily said it was really cool to see her school so she will be ready for Kindergarten!  She is so excited for school but she still has to wait one more year.

Finally I talked about Fire Fighters and we were able to go to the Fire Station for a tour.
First, Russell and his friend Vasu Mudliar explained the gear and turnouts the fire fighters use and wear.  They also explained what to do in case of a fire or if our clothes catch on fire.  Then we headed out to the bays to see the fire trucks.
Here is Eric White, Colby, Levi (Junior) Joseph, Noble White, Faye Olsen, Emily, and Evamarie White posing with FF Mudliar.  Too bad Eva Joseph didn't want to be in the picture.
We got to see all of the gear inside of the fire truck and the kids even got to sit in the driver's seat.  Afterward they all got to spray the fire hose.  I think the kids liked spraying the hose best of all.  They all had huge grins on their faces as they did it.

The kids have really enjoyed this last unit in preschool and the field trips.
