Dallas World Aquarium: Texas Trip Day 7

We were so glad we made the decision to leave the Cardon's house early and go site seeing. We were going to stay with them until Tuesday, but we were really wanting to go see the sites around. We left early Monday morning and headed to the Dallas World Aquarium. This aquarium is a three story rain forest and fish aquarium. It was really fun and we are glad we made the decision to go. There was so much to see on each floor that it took us around 4 hours to see everything.

I have never seen real live flamingos up close before so we had to get a picture.

The first place we went was the sting ray tank. When we first arrived, we saw the different fish life in the tank. Not long after one of the employees came and started feeding the sting rays.

It was cool to see them eat the food right out of his hand. They would eat it and then spin around the tank for more food. The employee would splash his hand in the water and off the rays would come for more food. This was so awesome to watch. It was a good way to start off the tour.

Next was the penguin area. It really stunk in this area.  There were a lot of different kinds of penguins and they were all actively doing something so it was fun to watch. Most of the time when we go to these kinds of zoos or other things like it the animals and other life are just lying around not doing anything. It was awesome to see that the majority of the animals and fish were all very active so the kids could see them and interact with them.

In fact, in this rain forest area, the birds were actually flying around our heads!

As we kept walking though, we saw so many different kids of animals.  These pictures only show a few.  There was a huge anaconda snake and a giant crocodile. We were amazed on how big the croc was!  We also saw a sloth climbing in the trees.  He was pretty amazing to watch as well.

In the actual aquarium side we were all in awe of the types of mammals they had. As we were watching the big fish and turtles, we noticed this big mammal floating around and Logan said "Guys its a manatee!" We were all amazed at how big it was. Logan was in heaven, we could not get him away from the glass.
Swimming around with the manatee were a bunch of other giant fish and sea turtles.  In another area, it was cool to see the different types of sea horses also. I never knew there were more than one type of sea horse. The jellyfish were cool to see as well.  We all learned a lot at the aquarium.

Our favorite place in the whole aquarium though was the shark tank!  We all had to go and watch these sharks in their environment.

We had one floating over our heads and as you can tell we were scared of it. This was actually a sawfish and it was pretty big!

The shark tank was a clear tube we walked through.  All around us sharks were swimming everywhere.  We loved watching them come and go.  It was also kind of creepy to see sharks up so close.  Luckily these were only bonnethead and brown sharks not the Great Whites.
This area was also a good place to take a break and get off our feet.  We loved visiting the Dallas World Aquarium and seeing all of the animals.  We would definitely go back if we are ever in Texas again.

After leaving the Aquarium, we went to Buckee's.  This place is a gas station/convenience store on steroids.  There was everything in this place.  It was also a great place to find Texas souvenirs.  We walked around this place for about an hour looking at all the cool things and buying souvenirs.  Then we headed to What-a-Burger!  What-a-Burger is a Texas fast food joint.  Russell loved What-a-Burger when he ate there when he helped move Traci to Texas.  He has been talking about it ever since then so we had to eat there while we were in Texas.  The best part he said was the Spicy Ketchup!  We all had burgers, fries, and peach shakes.  The shakes were the best.  We ate dinner at our hotel room and just chilled for the rest of the night.  It was nice to just relax on our last night in Texas.
