Happy 4th of July: Texas Trip Day 6

The main reason we came to Texas, besides vacation, was to attend Olivia's baby blessing. Traci was excited to have such a family turn out. She thought it was going to be just Mom and Dad. We surprised her when we said we were coming. It was a good Sunday and an awesome blessing. The Cardon's were great hosts.

After the family luncheon, we went to the city firework show in our new tie-dyed 4th of July shirts.

We really stood out among the crowd in our tie-dyed shirts.  Since there were about 20 of us in matching shirts, we were hard to miss. As we were walking around seeing the country music show, people came up to us and asked if we were related to the other people with tie dye shirts. We said yes!
The city of Longview puts on a free concert every July 4th as part of their Freedom Festival.  This year they were supposed to have Mark Chestnut, which would have been awesome, but unfortunately he had to cancel last minute.  Instead we got to see Jon Stork and Mike Ryan.  Emily loved the country music show.

Emily got right up to the front of the show. She is truly becoming a fun soon to be teenager who loves country music. The music was a little too loud for the babies so we hung out a little ways away in the shade.  Emily kept wanting kept going back and listen though so we made a bunch of trips back and forth. Once the first singer, Jon Stork, was done we were able to stand in line and meet him. It was even cooler when he let us take a picture with him.

This guy was so friendly and nice.  He had a really great voice and band as well.  We were excited to shake his hand.

The second singer, Mike Ryan, was not as good as the first but still fun to watch.

This band was a little more well known than the first so he got the majority of the time.  He seemed a little cocky and arrogant.  He also did a bit of drinking.  We didn't watch a lot of his concert but we could hear the music from where we were hanging out.  Oh well, it was still fun.  Emily kept hoping to snag a guitar pick when he threw them out but she kept missing.

As were walking around the concert, a nice couple noticed Colby drooling over their Slingshot and asked if he wanted to sit in it.  The boys were in heaven!  They were cool and even let all of us sit in it and act like we were driving.   It was so fun.
There is definitely a thing as Southern Hospitality.  Everyone was so friendly and nice here.

It was time to settle in as the sun went down and get ready for the fire work show.  As we waited, we played cards and games.

The firework show was amazing. We have seen many firework shows and have been impressed with each one, but Texas blew every one of the past firework shows out of the water. It was mind blowing.  They shot off so many fireworks! The show lasted about a half hour and the Grand Finale was probably 2 minutes long. I wasn't sure when they were going to stop shooting them off. The kids could not stop talking about how cool it was. This was a great family outing for the Fourth of July and the perfect way to celebrate Texas Style!
