Let's Go Fly a Kite

Every since we saw Mary Poppins, Emily has been asking me if we can go fly our kites.  I always said maybe later.   Last year I put the kites away and kind of forgot about them.  The kids forgot about them too until we got out the inflatable pool and found the kites with it.  Then both Emily and Colby kept begging us to go fly their kites now that they had one.  They would even try to fly them in the house by running down the hall but of course that never worked.  Well later finally came and I took the kids to the park to fly their kites.
Being summer in St. George it was really hot so we took a lot of breaks in the shade.  The kids had a blast though and didn't want to stop for very long.  For some reason Colby's turtle kite didn't come with string (yeah I know who sells a kite with no string...or who buys a kite with no string?).  So we had to share Emily's spool of string to fly Colby's kite.  This was nice because while one kid was flying their kite, the other one could sit in the shade and watch and rest.

There wasn't a lot of wind that day but that didn't stop us.  The Shadow Mountain park has a steep grass hill leading into an open grass field.  To fly our kites, the kids would run down the hill as fast as they could and I would throw the kite in the air and then we got to watch the kite fly.  As long as the kids continued to run, the kites would fly.  Unfortunately, when they stopped running, the kites fell and it was time to start over or rest in the shade.  Flying our kites was actually really fun.  I don't know why I put it off for so long.  We need to do it again soon.  After being in the heat for a while, Logan was done and wanted to go home.  Emily and Colby did not want to go at all.  I had to bribe them with a trip to Grandma's in order to get them in the car.  Crazy kids! What a fun day we had!
