Like I posted about before, we are participating in the summer reading program at the library. Emily and Colby have enjoyed showing their reading cards to Mrs. Mann and getting prizes. They have also enjoyed going to the different activities each week. They look forward to every Tuesday so we can go to the library. Here are some of the activities we did in June:
On June 11, we learned all about planting seeds and how they grow. We even got to make our own little greenhouse out of a toilet paper roll and Ziploc bag. The we went outside and planted sunflower seeds in the community garden. We went back a few days ago and we could see our plants growing.
Ever since then, Emily has been our little gardener. She loves watering the flowers. She also wants to plant every seed she finds. I think we have planted tons of apple seeds and apricot pits and other seeds all over our back yard. We will see if they grow!
The next week a paleontologist came and told us all about finding fossils and bones and all sorts of ancient creatures. It was pretty cool to hear about all of the cool things he had found.
This week we learned about Ancient Indians and how they made pottery. After learning about this, the kids each got a piece of clay and were able to make their own coil pots. They had a blast and the pots turned out really good. Emily added a handle to hers so it would be a teapot. Colby decorated his with cool designs using a Popsicle stick.
There are a few more weeks of the program and we are excited to see what other fun activities are planned.
