Cottontail Scramble

Monday, April 18 the Tonaquint Nature Center put on an Easter Egg Hunt called the Cottontail Scramble. I thought it would be fun to take the kids to it. Emily was really excited to go to the Tonaquint park to get eggs to put in her new basket.

This is was the egg hunting field before the mass of kids swarmed to gather the eggs. I was a little disappointed in the egg hunt though. First, I couldn't find the 2 year old group so I just put Emily in the 3-4 year old group which was fine until the hunt coordinators told all of the kids to gather at one end of the field without their parents. Instead of having the kids stagger around the field, they wanted all of the kids at one end so there were a million kids crammed together on one side. This frightened Emily as well as many of the other kids because they were crammed together without their parents. Many of the kids were crying; then, the scary Peter Cottontail came out to start the hunt and frightened even more kids. Once Emily saw the rabbit, she did not want to go out in the field and gather eggs near the rabbit. When the hunt started there was a stampede of children and all of the little ones got ran over by the big ones. Emily just ran to me when the hunt started. She ended up not getting any eggs. When I asked her why she didn't go out and get eggs, she told me because she was scared and she said we could get more eggs later at Grandma's.

After the Hunt, we went and played at the park and Emily liked that much better.

Emily loves playing at the park. She asks me everyday if we can go to the park and play. She loves the slides and swings the best. Emily could play all day if I let her.

On the way back to the truck, Emily found a couple of empty eggs that the other kids had dropped. I told her she could pick them up and put them in her basket and she was so excited. Finding those eggs made her whole day!

When we got home we had to get a picture with Brother and the eggs she found. So the Easter Egg Hunt turn out to be not so bad because Emily got the eggs she wanted and she got to play in the park.
